20 Jul Spanish as an optional subject in Nepal

The rector of the University of Salamanca, Juan Manuel Corchado Rodríguez, has met with an institutional and academic delegation from Nepal to lay the groundwork for a future collaboration agreement that will bring Spanish to classrooms in the Asian country.

The main objective of this project is to study the feasibility of implementing Spanish as an elective subject in public schools within the municipality of Ghodaghodi. The initiative has already sparked significant interest in the Kailali region, where several educational centers are ready to join.

This visit to Salamanca is part of an institutional, academic, and cultural tour by the Nepalese delegation, focused on strengthening ties with Spain and enhancing local public education through language.

A key meeting for internationalization

The following representatives participated in the working meeting held at the Rectorate:

• On behalf of USAL: Raúl Sánchez Prieto (Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation) and Rubén Ramírez (Director of International Courses).
• On behalf of the Nepalese delegation: Padam Singh Diyakoti (project coordinator), Khadak Bahadur Rawat (mayor of the Ghodaghodi municipality), Ghanshyam Ojha (municipal spokesperson), along with the directors of the Ghodaghodi Multiple Campus, Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai Jaishi and Laxman Neure.
• Institutional support: The directors of the ELE USAL franchises in Bilbao and Barcelona, Joshi Gokarna (general management) and Paula Reyes Álvarez (academic management), also attended.
