23 Jun Jorayal Rural Municipality Becomes Nepal’s First to Introduce Spanish in All Its Schools – A Visionary Step for Global Education
In a historic leap toward international education, Jorayal Rural Municipality of Doti District has become the first municipality in Nepal to introduce Spanish language education in all of its schools. This groundbreaking initiative has been made possible by the visionary leadership of Chairperson Mr. Durga Dutta Ojha, in collaboration with ELE University of Salamanca’s Barcelona International Campus.
This move sets a new precedent in Nepal, showcasing how local governance can power global opportunities for rural youth. Thanks to Mr. Ojha’s progressive approach, hundreds of students from remote areas now have the chance to learn Spanish within their own community and qualify for direct university admission in Spain—specifically at the University of Salamanca, an institution with over 800 years of academic legacy and more than 130 internationally recognized degree programs.
🌍 Why Spanish? Here Are Key Facts:
- Spanish is the second most spoken native language in the world, after Chinese Mandarin.
- It is the official language in 21 countries and spoken by over 500 million people globally.
- The United States is projected to become the country with the highest number of Spanish speakers by 2050.
- Spanish is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and plays a key role in global diplomacy, the European Union, and major NGO/INGO hiring platforms.
- Tourism and international business increasingly prioritize Spanish as a core communication skill—especially in hospitality, aviation, and customer service industries.
- Multilingual candidates, especially those fluent in Spanish, are statistically more likely to be hired and offered higher-paying roles worldwide.
By integrating Spanish into the municipal school curriculum, Jorayal is not only giving its students a global language, but also an international future—a future of education, mobility, and opportunity.
As children’s neurological systems are at their peak learning capacity during school years, introducing Spanish at this stage gives them a lifelong asset, both academically and professionally.
This partnership with ELE USAL Barcelona is a monumental step forward and a proud achievement for Nepal. It signals the beginning of a new chapter where even rural regions become gateways to world-class education.
On behalf of the ELE USAL Family, we express our deepest gratitude and admiration to Chairperson Mr. Durga Dutta Ojha. May his leadership continue to inspire mayors and municipal leaders across Nepal to invest in globally relevant education for future generations.
We look forward to seeing Jorayal’s students in Spain, building bridges of learning, language, and leadership.
Congratulations, Jorayal. The future speaks Spanish.
