Do I need a visa to study in Spain?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Stays of less than 90 days:<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Spanish Ministry has a list of countries indicating which do not need<\/strong> to apply for a study visa (visa-exempt countries) and which do need one<\/strong> to travel to Spain (visa required to cross external borders).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Students coming from a country of the European Union<\/strong> or from another State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area –Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein- <\/strong>and Switzerland<\/strong> do not need to obtain a student visa for Spanish courses.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A visa is also not required for those students who wish to take a course of less than 90 days (12 weeks) from the following countries:<\/p>\n

ALBANIA, ANDORRA, FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, ARGENTINA, AUSTRALIA, BAHAMAS, BARBADOS, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, BRAZIL, BRUNEI, CANADA, SOUTH KOREA, COSTA RICA, CHILE, EL SALVADOR, UNITED STATES, GUATEMALA, HONDURAS, ISRAEL, JAPAN, MALAYSIA, MAURITIUS, MEXICO, MONACO, MONTENEGRO, NICARAGUA, NEW ZEALAND, PANAMA, PARAGUAY, SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS, SAN MARINO, HOLY SEE, SERBIA, SEYCHELLES, SINGAPORE, URUGUAY, VENEZUELA.<\/p>\n

If your stay is longer than 90 days:<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you plan to carry out a study stay in Spain of more than 90 days, you DO need a student visa (type D). This visa is valid for 90 days, and the student has one month from entry into the Schengen Area to apply for the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The TIE<\/strong> is the permit for temporary stay that legally proves that the holder can remain in Spain. The TIE is valid exclusively for the duration of the study stay in Spain. The duration of the stay permit is granted for a maximum of one academic year and is renewed annually<\/strong>. To renew it, it is necessary to prove that the studies are continuing, as well as satisfactory academic progress.<\/p>\n
